"OctoDIE" Found Materials, White-colored pencil on Paper. 30" by 24". 2020.
I was inspired by the destruction of our oceans that make up 71% of our planet in creating this art project. As the population of humans has increased as well as the mass production of one use disposable items has increased the amount of trash and waste in our ocean has increased dramatically. This excess of garbage in our oceans has brought harm to the oceans wildlife. I created work that calls for action against the immense use of one use items by showing an octopus swimming around and being engulfed in trash. Although more people are becoming aware and starting to limit their use of disposable items, more needs to be done to save this natural environment.
“Broken Discovery” 16" by 20", Acrylic Paint, Graphite on Paper, Broken CD, 2020.
The symbolism within this artwork is meant to be understood by the viewer. The black background shows pain. The face is only black, white, and grey to show the person is experiencing the darkness coming from the background. The right half of the face is the broken CDs, representing reflection. The true colors or character of the individual is shown. When someone has been through something difficult they allow themself to feel the pain but grow from the pain experienced; as growth is beauty.
"Life Chain, Rain Chain" Glass Rock, Wire, and Chain. Six Feet. October 28, 2019.
This artwork was created to symbolize my identity. In this artwork, I picked different colors of stones to represent a certain characteristic. These character traits include success, joy, trust, creativity, healing, nurturing and strength. The goal of my artwork is to make something that reminds me of the strengths and struggles of my life but also reminds me of where I am going in the future endeavors of my life.
“God Save the King” 19" by 16". Magazine Collage. 2019.
I focused on idolized images of women and my art was created to protest this idolization. Kendall Jenner is the focal point of my artwork because she is a social media icon. I collaged different faces of men looking at her representing how women are constantly judged for their looks. Through seeing the female social media icon surrounded by the faces I wanted to create a sense of feeling trapped.
“Accessory, not Necessity” 15" by 15.5" Pencil on Paper, 2019.
My “Accessory not Necessity” artwork focuses on how women were represented in history. Women have been told throughout history that they need a man to support them, this rejects that concept. The woman is shown stepping on the man, representing strength and control in the lives of females. Placing the man under the shoe shows him as non-essential and replaceable, like a pair of shoes.
